What is a Security Freeze?
A security freeze limits when a consumer reporting agency, such as SafeRent Solutions (“SRS”), can release the information it has on you to users of our services. A security freeze may be used by anyone, even those who do not believe they have been a victim of fraud, including identity theft.
What happens when I request a Security Freeze with SafeRent Solutions?
While the law varies from state to state, in general, you may request a security freeze to be placed upon your consumer file by completing the initial request form to the left. Upon receipt of your request, you will receive an email from SafeRent Solutions LLC requesting you to complete certain steps to authenticate your identity. After SRS verifies your identity, it will place a security freeze on your SRS consumer file. If you do not complete the authentication process, SRS will be unable to place a freeze on your file.
Once a security freeze is in place, SRS will provide you with a personal PIN. Once frozen, your SRS consumer file will only be released, subject to certain exceptions permitted by law, such as to your existing creditors, when you directly contact SRS, provide us with your personal PIN, and request that any information SRS has on you be released.
Please note that this process only places a freeze on your SRS file and not on any file which may be maintained by one or more affiliated companies or any other consumer reporting agencies. If you wish to place a security freeze on your credit report with any other consumer reporting agency, such as the three nationwide consumer credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion), you will need to contact those companies directly. SRS is not able to place a security freeze with any other entity on your behalf.
What does it mean to lift a Security Freeze?
When you want to apply for a new apartment, or apply for certain services, you can temporarily lift your security freeze and allow users to access your file. You may request a temporary lift by completing the initial request form to the left. Upon receipt of your request, you will receive an email from SafeRent Solutions requesting your basic information and your PIN. You will use the PIN you received when you established your security freeze. You can define the length of time you want your consumer file to be available. When that period ends, your files will be frozen again.
What is a removal of Security Freeze?
Removal of Security Freeze means you are removing the freeze permanently, allowing all third parties to access your consumer file permanently. Since this is a permanent removal, no time line is required. If you want to freeze your consumer file again, you must request a new Security Freeze. You may request a removal of Security Freeze by completing the initial request form to the left. Upon receipt of your request, you will receive an email from SafeRent Solutions requesting for your basic information and your PIN.
